      About This Artwork

This is the second drawing in a series of 3 vintage Maori dolls.  He is wearing a Kakahu (feather cloak) with Taniko design band, a Pounamu Tiki pendant around his neck and he is holding a Taiaha.

'Te Hira' was named after Melissa's Great Uncle Te Hira, who was named (the story goes) by a Maori Chief living in Waimate who struck a friendship with Melissa's Great Grandfather as they lived next door to one another -  5 of his children were named by his friend  - Wanaka, Hinemoa, Rewa, Te Hira and Koa.  Melissa loves this story of friendship from long ago, how much love and respect he had to ask his friend to name his children, and she hopes to research into who he was - as she is moving to Waimate.!

Melissa hopes the love and respect has been communicated in these little watercolours, as she dedicates these works to her great grandfather and his friendship with his neighbour.
'Te Hira' and his Maori doll sisters make a gorgeous set of 3, also available framed in black, white or natural. Treat yourself or a loved one to these retro relics that pull on the nostalgic heart strings!
Please note we are now printing this design on 100% Recycled Paper. The border is not printed in order to reveal the neutral beauty of the paper and its natural flecks and imperfections. Framed works pictured are discontinued stock, you will receive a print without a grey border.
